To further enhance faculty members’ capability in planning for science and technology award applications, address key issues such as award application preparation, achievement summarization, and material organization, and support the medium- and long-term layout of research awards, the School of Physics and Optoelectronic Engineering held a special training on science and technology award application planning and a “Sci-Tech Café” exchange event on May 20 in Meeting Room 438 of the Science Building. Invited attendees included Zhu Xiaoliang, Director of the Achievement and Awards Division of the Institute of Science and Technology; Yuan Cuiling, Section Chief of the same division; Wang Xiaoyan, Section Chief of the Intellectual Property Center; and Zheng Xin, Deputy Secretary of the University Youth League Committee. Also present were Meng Ting, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School; Liu Zhihai, Dean; Jin Lei, Deputy Dean; Chen Feng, Director of the Science and Technology Office; and other faculty members, with faculty from the Qingdao Campus participating online. The event was presided over by Jin Lei.

Jin Lei introduced the guests and the background of the event, expressing the hope that all faculty members would treasure this learning opportunity, engage in in-depth exchanges, and apply what they learn to effectively enhance their ability to apply for science and technology awards.

Liu Zhihai extended a warm welcome and sincere gratitude to the Institute of Science and Technology for visiting the school to provide guidance and exchanges. He noted that the school is currently at a critical stage of improving the quality and efficiency of its scientific research work. Science and technology awards are an important indicator of research strength. He expressed the hope that faculty members would seize policy opportunities, plan ahead in achievement summarization and application preparation, and enhance the overall academic competitiveness of the school with high-level achievements.

Meng Ting emphasized that science and technology awards provide crucial support for the school’s discipline construction, talent cultivation, and connotative development. The school attaches great importance to achievement cultivation and award application. She expressed the expectation that all faculty members would take the initiative to plan, devote themselves to research, and actively engage in high-level scientific research innovation and award applications.

Zhu Xiaoliang introduced the overall progress of science and technology award applications across the university. He stressed the important role of science and technology awards, patent layout, and intellectual property protection in discipline evaluation and the output of high-level achievements. He stated that the Institute of Science and Technology would continue to provide strong support through policy interpretation, application guidance, and service assurance, fully backing faculty members in actively applying and producing more landmark achievements.

Zheng Xin pointed out that disciplinary competitions are an important platform for honing students’ science and innovation capabilities and facilitating their growth and success. He expressed the hope that the school would actively foster a favorable atmosphere of innovation and striving for excellence, helping students accumulate achievements based on their professional knowledge and scientifically plan their competition participation and application work.

During the training session, Wang Xiaoyan delivered a special presentation on patent reward policies, intellectual property layout, and achievement protection. She interpreted patent award standards, as well as licensing and transformation application procedures, explained techniques for drafting application documents and responding to examination opinions, and shared pathways for cultivating high-value patents, international patent layout, and achievement transformation, guiding faculty members to establish an awareness of whole-process intellectual property management.

Yuan Cuiling conducted a special training on science and technology award application planning. She systematically reviewed the national, provincial, and ministerial science and technology award systems, and interpreted application conditions, recommendation channels, and review orientations. Drawing on the completed projects and award wins of the School of Physics over the past five years, she provided a detailed explanation of key aspects such as achievement reserves, highlight condensation, material writing, and timeline coordination. By analyzing typical cases, she exposed common pitfalls and offered practical planning strategies and operational advice.

During the exchange session, attending faculty members actively asked questions related to their own research practice, covering award matching, achievement condensation, material organization, and the coordinated layout of patents and science and technology awards. Experts from the Institute of Science and Technology provided targeted answers and precise guidance one by one, creating a lively atmosphere.

This event built an efficient communication platform between administrative departments and school faculty, effectively popularizing policies and practical methods related to science and technology award applications. Going forward, the School of Physics and Optoelectronic Engineering will continue to strengthen research service support, carry out regular policy publicity and application assistance, and guide faculty members to make early plans, early arrangements, and emphasize cultivation, so as to continuously produce high-level landmark scientific research achievements and promote the high-quality development of the school’s research innovation and discipline construction.
