Institute of Military Engineering 1953-1965

On May 12, 1953, the Faculty of Physics was established.

In August 1962, the Department of Physics of the Faculty of Physics set up an Experimental Teaching Department.Harbin Shipbuilding Engineering Institute 1970-1993

In 1971, the Department of Basic Courses was established.

In December 1972, the Physics Teaching and Research Office was established.

In March 1974, the Department of Basic Courses was withdrawn. Physics and the other seven teaching and research offices were withdrawn.

In 1977, the university re-established the Department of Basic Courses, and the Physics Teaching and Research Office were restored.

In 1978, the university recruited Physics Teacher Class.

In 1983, the university recruited five-year undergraduate students majoring in physics at “Night University”.

In September 1986, the university recruited Physics Teacher Class.

In 1988, the Physics Teaching and Research Office was separated from the Department of Basic Courses, and the Physics Department was established.

In 1993, the undergraduate Program in Optoelectronic Technology was set up.

Harbin Engineering University 1994-Present

In 1995, the college recruited students of the Program of Optoelectronic Technology.

In 1996, the Department of Physics was established, and authorized to grant Master's degrees in Physical Electronics and Optoelectronics.

In 1997, the master's degree in Physical Electronics and Optoelectronics was adjusted to the first-level discipline of optical engineering.

In 1998, the specialty of Optoelectronic Technology was adjusted to Electronic Science and Technology.

In 1999, the College of Science was established, and recruited students of Electronic Science and Technology.

In 2002, a new undergraduate specialty “Optical Information Science and Technology” was established.

In 2003, the Master's degree in "Optics" was approved, and the Department of Photoelectric Science was established.

In 2004, the college recruited students Master of Engineering in “Optical Engineering”

In 2008, “National Physics Experiment Teaching Demonstration Center” was approved.

In 2010, the college applied for a specialty in Optoelectronic Materials and Devices and got approval.

In 2011, the college established a Doctor’s program in Optical Engineering.

In 2012, the Ministry of Education’s “Micro-structure functional fiber for engineering applications” 111 innovation intelligence base was approved.

In 2014, the “Optical Engineering” postdoctoral research mobile station was approved.

In 2015, the Key Laboratory of “Fiber Integrated Optics” of the Ministry of Education passed the acceptance smoothly.

In 2016, the college applied for authorization for a Master of Science in Physics Level I and got approval.

In 2017, the college established the First International Advisory Committee of the Optical Engineering Section.

In 2018, the college obtained the first batch of National New Engineering Research and Practice Projects.

In 2019, the College of Physics and Optoelectronic Engineering was established. The specialty of Optoelectronic Information Science and Engineering was selected as the national and provincial first-class undergraduate major construction department.

In 2020, the college applied for the undergraduate program of Applied Physics and got approval.

In 2021, the college recruited undergraduates in Physics.

In 2022, the college was approved as the Key Laboratory of “Marine Photonic Materials and Device Physics” by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
