A Letter to Alumni from the School of Physics and Optoelectronic Engineering, Harbin Engineering University

Dear Alumni,

In the late spring and early summer, the wind is warm and the days are long.

At this moment, the fragrance of lilacs spreads into the corridors on campus, and the evening cherry blossoms by the Songhua River swirl gently with the wind, falling all over the stone steps you once hurried past. In May, where spring meets summer, sunlight filters through the glass dome of Building 11, and the dappled light and shadows remain as clear as in your memories. No matter which land you set foot on now, the changing seasons of the Engineering Campus will always hide wavelengths that resonate with your youth.

1. The Long Stairs Remain, Time Leaves Traces

Do you still remember? When the April wind was still wrapped in the broken ice of the Songhua River, the apricot flowers in front of Building 11 had bloomed at the frequency of submarine sonar. Do you still remember? The trajectory of those pink and white petals floating into the laboratory was much like the ripples when a torpedo enters the water. Now, the old apricot tree outside the window still punctually reports the spring flood to the Military Industry Playground, and the branches you grafted back then have grown into a new array in the Alumni Forest.

2. Roots Stretch for Miles, Veins Beat as One

Some say the deepest bond in the world is the spiritual bloodline that connects hearts. In October, Wenmiao Street becomes a natural camouflage laboratory. The gradation of maple leaves from military green to olive and rust red is just like the chromatic test of a certain stealth material. The maple leaf specimen you once pressed in your College Physics textbook has now become the source of inspiration for satellite coatings, replicated by junior schoolmates using micro-nano processing technology.

3. The Wind Blows Far and Wide, Gaze Unchanged as Ever

Dear alumni, do you know?

When the first snow falls, the Military Industry Playground transforms into the toughest art exhibition hall. The most unforgettable moment is on a moonlit night, when searchlights sweep across the snow sculptures and icicles cast pulsing shadows on the outer walls. And those snow particles lit up by starlight are much like the fluorescent trajectories you left for your alma mater when you scattered like stars.

4. Sending Summer Notes from Afar, Quietly Awaiting Reunion

Dear alumni, reunion needs no preset date. The School has never stopped watching over you – not as a witness's scrutiny, but as a family's gaze. The day you feel a flutter in your heart at the mention of "Harbin Engineering University", the moment you suddenly write down an old address in your thesis acknowledgments, or when the evening wind in a foreign land carries the familiar scent of lilacs – that's when your hometown whispers: "The distance you pursue has always resonated in sync with my watch." This letter is short but love runs deep. May spring apricots form a boat to carry you through the undercurrents of research; may autumn maples light a torch to guide you across the technical peaks; may winter snows forge a sword to help you guard the lights of thousands of homes.

We sincerely invite you to keep in touch with the college. The school will always be your strong backup and warm haven whenever you need it! Please scan the QR code below to stay connected with the college. Wish you all the best!
