The 13th National College Students Optoelectronic Design Competition National Finals were grandly held at Zhejiang University from August 20 to 22, 2025. The team from Harbin Engineering University, led by teachers Zhu Zheng and Wang Ziming, consisted of 6 teams with 15 students. After intense competition, relying on solid professional knowledge, excellent practical ability and innovative spirit, our students finally won 4 national first prizes, 2 second prizes and 3 third prizes. The quantity and quality of national competition awards have reached a new historical high, achieving a historic breakthrough in winning the national first prize in the physical object track for the first time.
The National College Students Optoelectronic Design Competition, sponsored by the Chinese Optical Society, is an important discipline competition for optoelectronic majors in colleges and universities across the country and a top-level event in this field. It provides a national authoritative exchange platform for students majoring in optoelectronics and related fields to comprehensively apply their knowledge in scientific research and practice. With the theme of "Enlightened by Light, Created with Wisdom, Chasing Dreams for the Future", this year's competition attracted 343 universities, 3290 teams and 12156 students to register, with the number of participating universities and students reaching the highest in history.
In the "Laser Confrontation of Intelligent Vehicles" physical object competition, our team members strived actively and fought for the best. They arrived at the competition venue in advance to debug the equipment, and their skillful and orderly operations were impressive. Through innovative movement logic and algorithm optimization, the team members achieved stable tracking and efficient hitting in complex environments, fully demonstrating their solid professional quality and innovative ability, which won rounds of applause from the audience.

This competition topic closely aligns with current technological trends, embodying the high integration and comprehensive application of technologies. It integrates multiple technical fields such as laser sensing, optical design, image recognition, automatic control, and embedded systems, vividly simulating the application scenarios of optoelectronic systems in complex industrial environments. Our university's participating teams achieved 2 national first prizes and 1 second prize in this topic.

In the "Optical Non-destructive Measurement of Micro-hole Parameters with Large Depth-to-Diameter Ratio" competition field, the team members of our university were also full of confidence. They were not afraid of strong opponents, responded calmly, and dared to fight and strive. The on-site players repeatedly calibrated the system parameters and calmly dealt with the noise interference and error problems in the measurement, demonstrating a solid theoretical foundation and a rigorous scientific attitude.

This competition topic addresses common challenges in industrial inspection and drives the development of high-precision, non-destructive, and efficient optical measurement methods. Ultimately, our university’s teams won 2 National First Prizes, 1 National Second Prize, and 3 National Third Prizes in this topic.

Meanwhile, our university was awarded the "Excellent Organization Award", and a total of 6 instructors received the honorary title of "Excellent Instructor". The outstanding achievements in this competition fully demonstrate the down-to-earth and striving-for-excellence spirit of physics students, and highlight the school’s effectiveness in cultivating innovative talents. Looking ahead, the school will actively promote the educational philosophy of "promoting construction, teaching, and learning through competitions". It will continuously enhance students’ applied capabilities and forward-looking thinking through practical training, inject new vitality into the discipline construction of optoelectronic majors in our university, and contribute more to the high-quality development of new engineering talent cultivation.
