On August 31, 2024, the opening ceremony of the 2024 postgraduate students in the School of Physics and Optoelectronic Engineering was held in the academic lecture hall of the Qihang Activity Center. All the leaders of the school, the heads of academic teams, full-time and part-time postgraduate counselors and teacher representatives attended the ceremony, and Zhang Yu, the deputy secretary of the Party committee and vice president of the school, presided over the opening ceremony.

The ceremony began with the solemn national anthem. At the ceremony, the teachers and students watched the Xinhua News Broadcast report of General Secretary Xi Jinping's inspection of the school in 2023 together and deeply studied the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping's important speech during his inspection of the school.

After watching the promotional video of the college, Professor Liu Zhihai, the dean, gave the "first lesson of the new semester" to the postgraduate students of the 2024 class. Centering on the college motto of "aiming high, striving continuously, seeking truth and being practical, and encouraging learning for the benefit of the people", he hoped that the new students would establish lofty ideals, cherish the aspiration to serve the country, not be afraid of difficulties and obstacles, persevere in struggle, pursue truth, be down-to-earth, study hard, and bravely climb the peak of science to contribute to a strong country and a strong military.

After that, the heads of various academic teams respectively introduced the scientific research directions, team compositions and representative scientific research achievements of their teams, and encouraged postgraduate students to move forward bravely on the path of scientific research.

Associate Professor Yang Jing, as the representative of postgraduate counselors, delivered a speech. He hoped that the students would study hard, abide by discipline, be brave to challenge, constantly surpass themselves, seize the precious present and strive to create a beautiful future.

Finally, Meng Ting, the Party secretary, sent a message to the new students of the 2024 class. She said that the students have entered the postgraduate study stage, which is a new starting point and a new stage for growth and success. She hoped that the students would clarify their goals and directions of struggle, make scientific career plans, make full use of the high-level scientific research platforms and good learning environments provided by the school and the college, carry forward the fine traditions of Harbin Institute of Military Engineering, cherish the time, live up to the prime of life, continuously enhance their qualities and capabilities, achieve comprehensive progress and improvement, and contribute to promoting the construction of a strong country and the great cause of national rejuvenation.
