The sub-forum of the 9th Xinghai Forum for Young Scholars at Home and Abroad - School of Physics and Optoelectronic Engineering was held as scheduled in Room 212 of the Science Building on the afternoon of July 9, 2024. Liu Zhihai, the dean of the School of Physics and Optoelectronic Engineering, Gao Feng, the Party secretary, Zhang Yu, the deputy Party secretary and vice dean, Shi Jinhui, the vice dean, the heads of various basic academic organizations, young teachers, and 15 invited young scholars jointly participated in this forum and conducted academic exchanges.


Zhang Yu and Shi Jinhui respectively presided over the two-day sub-forum. Dean Liu Zhihai gave a keynote speech, introducing the development history and basic situation of the college. He pointed out that in order to thoroughly implement the strategy of strengthening the university with talents in the new era, the college has further broadened its horizons in recent years, benchmarked upwards, learned from others externally, planned for the overall situation, and steadily promoted the talent development plan. This forum has given full play to the main role of the university, integrated various talent programs and policy support, and further strengthened the efforts to attract overseas talents. The college regards talent work as the foundation and support for all undertakings and sincerely invites outstanding young people at home and abroad to join in and help the college achieve high-quality development.

Gao Feng delivered a speech at the sub-forum, on behalf of the college, expressing welcome to the young scholars and sincerely inviting them to join the college to explore the truth and pursue light together. Zhang Yu introduced the basic profile and talent recruitment policies of the college, enabling the young scholars to further deepen their understanding of the college through this forum, strengthen exchanges with relevant teams and teachers in the college, and more hopefully, outstanding talents at home and abroad could actively join the college to make new contributions to building a strong country in education, science and technology, and talent.
The 15 scholars participating in the forum were respectively from universities or scientific research institutions such as the University of London, the University of New South Wales, the Porphyry Photonics R&D Department in Canada, Nanyang Technological University, the Optical Laboratory of the University of Murcia, the University of Hong Kong, and the University of Southampton. The participating scholars gave wonderful academic reports. After the reports, the young scholars had in-depth academic exchanges and discussions with relevant experts in the college, learned from each other, shared experiences, reached a consensus on cooperation, and sparked innovative ideas in the collision of thoughts. After the meeting, the young scholars visited the Key Laboratory of Fiber Integrated Optics of the Ministry of Education of the college. All the scholars said that they had gained a lot from participating in this forum, and 4 scholars showed their intention to join the college.



This forum invited outstanding young people at home and abroad to the college, focused on the college's frontier research and hot fields to conduct academic exchanges, broadened horizons, inspired thinking, deepened the understanding of the college among scholars at home and abroad, and laid a good foundation for attracting more outstanding young talents to join.
