
Around April 29, 2024, the 7th provincial college young teachers' teaching competition, hosted by the provincial federation of trade unions and the provincial education department, came to an end at Harbin Normal University. Teacher Gao Shuai from our college demonstrated solid professional qualities and excellent teaching skills and won the first prize in the science group.

The participating course "Optics" is a compulsory course for undergraduates majoring in Optical and Electronic Information Science and Engineering and is among the third batch of provincial first-class courses. Gao Shuai said: Optics is the "stepping stone" for students majoring in optoelectronics to enter the professional field. He hopes to lay a more solid foundation of optical knowledge for students through this course. During the preparation for the competition, he refined his teaching concepts, methods, and processes and gained a deeper understanding of how to integrate ideological and political elements. In the future, he will bring the experience of this competition back to the classroom and integrate it into daily teaching to further improve the quality of teaching.

The 7th provincial college young teachers' teaching competition, with the concept of "teaching a good course", has five groups: liberal arts, science, engineering, medicine, and ideological and political courses. The age of the participating teachers is limited to under 40 years old. The competition is divided into two stages: the preliminary round and the final round. The preliminary round is organized by each college according to the actual situation, and the final round is organized by the provincial federation of trade unions and the provincial education department. The links include teaching design, classroom teaching, and teaching reflection. Contestants need to provide the teaching design of 10 class hours of the participating course and the corresponding teaching content of 10 teaching sections. Each teaching section is 20 minutes and is presented from aspects such as teaching design plan, teaching content, teaching organization, language and teaching manner, teaching characteristics, and teaching reflection. The credits of the participating courses are not less than 2 credits. A total of 158 teachers from 37 colleges and universities participated in the final round.
The provincial college young teachers' teaching competition is the teaching competition with the highest level, the largest scale, and the most participants in colleges and universities in our province. It has become an important platform for young teachers in colleges and universities in the province to display and improve their teaching abilities and has been held for seven sessions so far. This session of the competition aims to deepen the "Five Million" workers' labor and skills competitions, temper the basic teaching skills, give full play to the exemplary and leading role of the competition in improving the quality of the teaching team, further stimulate the enthusiasm of young teachers to update educational concepts and master modern teaching methods, and mobilize the enthusiasm of young teachers for self-management, self-service, and self-growth.
