In order to cultivate an international research team, the College of Physics and Optoelectronic Engineering has been constantly strengthening the international exchanges of its faculty members to absorb foreign research theories and methods and keep in line with the international research frontiers. The metamaterials research group of the College of Physics and Optoelectronic Engineering has a cooperation history of over 30 years with City, University of London in the UK. It has carried out in-depth cooperation in multiple aspects such as talent cultivation, base construction, and cooperative projects with the College of Physics. It has been approved for cooperative projects by the Ministry of Science and Technology, jointly published numerous papers. It also has in-depth cooperative relationships with the National University of Singapore, the University of Hong Kong, the Institute of Chemistry of High-Purity Substances of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Automation and Process Control of the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the University of Limerick in Ireland, and the Leibniz Institute for Surface Engineering in Leipzig, striving to jointly build an international cooperation platform integrating international talent cultivation, scientific research cooperation, and achievements.

The College of Physics and Optoelectronic Engineering attaches great importance to international cooperation and exchanges. In 2024, the college presided over a project for building a global high-level partnership between Harbin Engineering University and the Georgia Institute of Technology in the US. It signed a framework cooperation agreement with the Institute of Automation and Process Control of the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences and carried out international cooperation and exchanges with Nanyang Technological University in Singapore and the University of Pomerania in Poland. The college had one additional teacher taking on positions in international professional academic organizations or journals, eight teachers serving as chairpersons or organizing committee members of international conferences. Among the faculty members, one person gave a keynote speech, 16 people gave invited speeches, two people gave oral presentations at A- and B-class international academic conferences in this field, and the college hosted or co-hosted international academic conferences twice.

In addition, the College of Physics and Optoelectronic Engineering also attaches great importance to talent cultivation. In 2024, the college had four additional Pakistani international students coming to study in China, sent three doctoral students for joint cultivation overseas, and 11 undergraduate and postgraduate students gave poster or oral presentations at international conferences. The college also added one provincial and ministerial foreign expert project and one university-level Intelligence Introduction Base.
